The Plan
Your day, hour by hour
Dugout canoe on the Rapti
Start with a quiet float downstream in a traditional wooden canoe, drifting past basking crocodiles, gharial and waterbirds as the mist lifts off the river.
Guided jungle walk
Step into the forest on foot with trained guides, reading tracks and birdsong. You move at the pace of the jungle and notice what a jeep would speed past.
Elephant Breeding Centre
Visit the government-run centre near Sauraha to observe domesticated elephants and their calves up close — without riding them.
Tharu cultural show
Finish with a community-run performance of the Tharu stick dance and traditional songs in Sauraha.
